Manila is the pulsing cultural heart of the Philippines. Here u can find plenty of activities to discover the lifestyle of the people. Join the differences between a modern capital and the natural lifestyle.
A main part of the Nightlife in Manila happens near by the Manila Bay, where u can have a walk, have some snacks and listen to lots of different musicstyles, which are presented on some stages. Actually this spot is closed and was moved to the new Baywalk at the Asia Mall. Sorry to say, but Manila lost one reason to be visited. The new Baywalk is far away to be like the old one at Manila Bay.
To be the pulsing heart does also mean that the Town is overcrowded, the pollution is worst, the Bay smells like it would be the sink of the town, waste is floating in the water and sometimes the traffic is that much terrible, that one ride for 6 kilometers can last up to 2 hours. The taxi drivers always try to trick you and mostly trying to off their meter. Be aware of that.
We are visiting Manila, sometimes, because of the German Embassy which is always kindly and helpful. Until now we didn't discover the surroundings of the town, which should be much nicer places as Manila itselfs.
More general information's you can find in the Wikipedia.
The Las Palmas Hotel is the best choice, because it is in the heart of the town. Lots of Spots can be reached by walking. The Bay, different restaurants and also the Paseode Bahamas Restaurant, the night life, the Casino and also the Robinson Mall.
The rooms are comfortable, the staff is well trained and so friendly. The rates of the rooms are in the middle of the range and the value of what you get is high. The Rates are affordable.
You can find a link to the actual rates here.
The friendly people in the hotel let you feel as you would be in a 5 Star Luxury Hotel.
Close to the Manila Bay you will find plenty of choices for your accomodation, the room rates start from 600 Peso up to 12000 Peso in one of the High luxury Hotels.
You can find some offers for City Tours in your Hotel. Better ask one of the travel agencies because they are cheaper. Some tours will lead you into the surroundings of Manila, showing you some interesting places like Waterfalls or mountain views. We did not join one of those tours, because of the traffic, you never know how long it takes to bring you there, and how long you can stay there, because of the way back. So we decided to have one of the City tours.
Sorry to tell you, but it wasn't really a good experience for several reasons. The price is 1800 Peso each Person, all entrance fees encluded, it should lead you to some churches, to the old Fortress, to the Manila Memorial of the fallen Soldiers, and one Museum of History.
But, the tourguide was late, and driver and tourguide always trying to ask for additional entrance fees. When they realised that this doesn't work, they stopped only, on locations, which have no entrance fee and just passed by the other goals to tell us where they are located.
This happens to many of visitors, whom we were talking to. Anyway, we will try it again, and then we are already aware and might be we will see something more interesting in Manila then the Memorial above.
Sometimes it has to be sweet and Italien. The Choco Tiramisu of the Paseo de Bahamas Restaurant is the best for that. The Paseo is close to the main entrance of the Robinson Mall. We are sorry that we discovered it only in Manila. But at least it is another new reason to visit that place. The Paseo offers also spectacular tasty other meals. We joined the Filet Mignon and the grilled Salmon. Whow...... that was really good. The menu of the restaurant was developed by an award winning chef, whose working experience covers over 18 years with various prestigious establishments.
A very high international Standard of cooking and small local prices. Is' nt that a good combination?
We also liked the Interior. The décor of the restaurant is predominantly in earth tones with a lot of wooden features from the floor to the walls and featuring a trellis that lends a al fresco feel to the interiors of the restaurant. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed giving the restaurant a laid back ambiance. Service is friendly, fast and efficient. Music is world music, focusing on the Latin and Caribbean variety - smoothing and relaxing during the day and upbeat and comfortably loud into the evening operation.
Of course in Manila are plenty Restaurants. The most are close to the Robinson Mall and of course inside the area of Asia Mall. The prices are higher than in other regions, but still affordable.
One Highlight at the Mall of Asia is the IMAX Cinema, which is the 5th largest one of the world. If you never had this experience you should try it.
At the Bay walk behind the Mall, you can find some small Restaurants and stages, where all kinds of music are performed. Every evening there is a nice light spectacle at the center fountain at the bay walk. Nice to see. And about Sounds, it's all the same inside the MAll you have to pass lot's of sound barriers. Don't ask the staff, they won't here you.
Outside on the terraces you can find restaurants and coffee shops to relax.
Taxis are the worst at the Asia Mall, if you don't like to fall in line at the official taxi stop, then you will be asked for a horrible fee. Better fall in line.
Ocean Park is an interesting place to go if you have never seen an Aquarium like this, where you can walk under a tunnel made of glass. We placed some interesting pictures here.
